I was contacted by a research company that was looking for doctors to complete a 30 min interview on chemoablation. It sounds like a focus group/interview situation for a product. They promised to pay $500 for my input. The company is L&E Research. Was wondering if anyone had any experience with these sort of things.

I get similar requests frequently. This isn't "research". It's "marketing research".

They will first want to know all about you. Then they are likely to tell you that you don't meet their entrance criteria, and give you nothing. But of course they have all this info about you now, which they sell to other people for marketing.

If you do make it past the screen, then they will ask you about the topic of interest. It's all about figuring out how to better sell their product.

It's reportable as pharma support, so you'll end up in a database as receiving money from them which is publicly available.

I've done it a few times in the past, when the group looking for input was something I really cared about.

I do online surveys through Sermo, M3 global research, Medscape etc not infrequently which are fairly similar marketing studies. Made over $1000 last year. I just take it all as Amazon credit and use it for my random purchases - it's nice to just have that amount sitting in "gift cards" when I want to buy a new kitchen gadget or a random book.

I’ve done a couple. Nice to get a little spending cash for not much effort to share my opinion.
