Hey, everybody. I'm in my CA-2 in NYC and starting my application process to pain fellowships, but we want to get away from the northeast. Does anybody know anything about the program at OHSU? We'd love to live in oregon, but I've never heard anything about this program but what's on the website. What's the reputation? Good/bad? Hard to get into? Procedures? Lifestyle? I'd really appreciate any info I can get about it, even if it's only hearsay or impressions from interviewing. Thanks a lot.

drrusso did his fellowship there and 812many is doing his fellowship there right now. They'd be the best bets for feedback. Portland is a great place!

I did my anesthesiology residency (2000)and pain fellowship (2001) at OHSU. I also spent some time as a pain medicine attending after I did some private practice. Now I am in private practice full time. As a fellow you get enough procedures to be able to go and work on your own. It is a very well balanced multidisciplinary program. You will enjoy Portland, especially if you like outdoors. And you will have time to enjoy it. The practice has grown a lot as well as the Department of Anesthesiology. I am very proud of my training there. I hope you enjoy it.🙂

OHSU pain fellowship program is weak by national average. Fellows don't get to do the complex procedures, because even the attendings themselves don't do much. The problem is the OHSU pain program is being pushed around by the radiology and surgical programs, therefore they give up many procedures like stim implants and v-plasty to their colleagues. In addition, OHSU pain program doesn't have a research track for the fellows. Hope this info is helpfull to you!
