Hey guys I’m a pgy1 at a 3 year Detroit EM program and I’m really looking in to doing a fellowship in Pain. From what I can see it’s mostly an Anesthesia or PMR dominated fellowship. Can anyone provide any information on EM friendly pain fellowships or any EM people who’ve been through it?

I went from EM to Pain in 2011 and I do 100% Pain now. Find a way to get an Interventional Pain rotation this year or next, then apply. There are other people on this EM forum who've also done Pain fellowships but aren't as vocal about it. I know of a handful. I'm sure there are more. Yes, the odds favor Anesthesia>PM&R>everyone else, in that order. But your odds aren't zero.

Why didn't you just apply for anesthesia? It's the path of least resistance. As bird will tell you, while you can go into pain from emergency medicine, it's not the easiest thing to do.
