Yesterday our medical school was given a day's worth of clinical lectures and one of them was by a pain management physician. This peaked my interest in pain management as a specialty. I am clueless, however, as to how someone becomes a pain management specialist. Any info would be appreciated!

I think most pain management docs are anesthesia trained and then specialize. PM&R may be a possiblity as well but I'm really not sure. Try checking out the Anesthesia and PM&R sites.

You can do it via Neurology as well.

The field of Pain Management (including interventional procedures) is represented most heavily by Anethesia, followed by PM&R and Neurology.
You can also enter this field through Psychiatry, but this is supposedly pretty rare.
