Just a heads up... the ABMS approved (today) Pain Medicine as an official subspecialty of radiology.

My source is a direct email from Gary Becker. The implementation still has to happen (takes time). The vote was decided just yesterday.

So will this be a pathway available as a fellowship straight from DR or will you have to be previously IR or MSK trained?

Straight from DR is my understanding. No reason for MSK or IR fellowship before a pain fellowship.

Is this akin to the pain fellowship that PM&R and Anesthesia have? As in, will residents for all 3 specialties be vying for the same fellowship?

I believe Neuro can also go into pain. I could be wrong though.

Pain Medicine is an official subspecialty of Anesthesia, Physiatry, Neuro, Psych, family, ER and radiology.
