I'm a fourth year med student just finishing up a pain medicine rotation (and also going into anesthesia), and I really enjoyed what these physicians do at our institution. I think I had a skewed view of what this practice was like (narcotics seekers, etc., etc.), but after finishing the rotation I realize that it is quite a noble profession with opportunities to perform really cool procedures and provide a great service to patients. I was hoping some anesthesia residents who might be interested in pain medicine could address what the future looks like for this field and what opportunities are to be had. Thanks in advance for any information.

No, that sounds pretty representative of pain managment.
