Is there a difference in salaries/job opportunities for pain specialists who have completed a pain fellowship after an anesthesiology residency vs. PM&R docs who complete an anesthesiology fellowship in pain?

I know a couple of the pain fellows at a very prestigous pain program and they have started signing on for jobs.

It seems the PMR pain guy offers are definetly less then the anesthesia guys. Often because a lot of the people signing jobs are also doing some work in there original residency. And of course anesthesia pays considerably better then PMR.

Either way go into a field for the field and not for the fellowship, because pain like any other fellowship changes A LOT with governmental policies and reimbursement (which from my sources are already on the downswing!!)

It all depends on procedure, procedures, procedures. If the PM&R salaries are less, it is because those individuals are more conservative in their treatment options. (Or maybe they are not as well-trained in those procedures.)
