Pakistani DO's

Most of the Pakistani doctors I see are MD or MBBS....or as a last resort they go to caribbean. There are soooo many south asians in most caribbean schools. I dont know if its just me but I dont see many pakistani students applying/going DO.
So please introduce urself here if you are a pakistani pre-med or medical student going DO 🙂
if you are a medical student....where do u go and how many pakistanis in ur class?
basically just getting an idea about which schools have more/less pakistani students 🙂

Touro-NY had a bunch. I honestly cant tell you how many were pakistani because i dont really remember everyone from my class anymore, but we had at least 4 pakistanis in our class. Many indians. So the subcontinent was represented.

There are a few Pakistanis at TCOM (and Indians as well).

i'm pakistani and I've noticed this as well. I'm applying DO and I've DEF had to defend myself to aunties and uncles at parties numerous times. For a lot of them, they've never heard of it and the MD is all about the name.

lol im indian and i have to do the same, they always think that DO is another name for a chiropractor/physio hopefully that changes soon.

I am also indian, but luckily my family understands that a DO is equivalent to a MD. I have a older uncle who is a DO and pretty much my whole family is involved in health care so they seem to know more about DO's.

You see a lot of south asians go to the Caribbeans because its seen as a quick and easy way of getting your degree. Low MCAT? Low GPA? No problem. You've all heard the stigma, there's a lot of pressure to become a doctor in south asian communities. I'm Indian and I'm just saying what I've seen from my friends and family. It's a terrible way of looking at it really.

I have asked the same question for Filipinoes, Philippines has only MD, so none of my relatives know what a DO is. I remember when I once explained to my parents what a DO is they just stared at me and was like "ohh","uhuh"... lol... but yeah I guess they dont mind, a doctor is a doctor.. the only thing I'm worried about is, If I do become a DO, I dont know if the Philippines will allow me to do medical missions and stuff.

I know of several Pakistani/Indian people who either have a DO or are attending DO medical schools.

Doesn't look like DO's have practicing rights in the Philippines, yet.

Completely agree. That's why I laugh when ignorant pre-meds make the claim that international practice rights are so limited for DO's.
