Hey everyone....Well I was looking at PBA's pharmcas website and noticed that out of the 300 people they interview that only 90 get acceptected and entering class is 75 people. Because it is relatively a new school, I dont think its most people's first choice. How can a new school only accept 30% of the people they interview?? I heard from a friend that they are letting more people in this year because of their recent accreditation. Is this true?? Where are all my floridians on this??? How are their interviews like?? And do u think my 3.27 gpa (science & math) and 99% pcat score will get me into UF??

Schools are competitive whether they are new or old. Actually, 30% isn't bad. They could give less interviews and that number would go up. But, that would actually lessen your chances of getting an interview.

If their class size is 75, then it's probably already increased. I thought they used to accept 60 students a year.

You can check out interview questions using the interview link.

Unfortunately, students that attend PBA always disappear from SDN. I don't know if the school frowns on it, or if they just don't want to post after they've started school.

I can't tell you whether or not you will get into UF. Some people have already been accepted. I didn't get my acceptance until early March. It takes them a while to get through the thousands of applications.

Hey! I interviewed in October at Palm Beach Atlantic and was accepted! The campus was absolutely gorgeous and their facilities were brand new. The staff made me feel like family and I was very impressed. It is a Christian School where high morals and values are necessary, so I think that is where they weed out some of the applicants that you are talking about. I was shocked at some of the other interviewees that were not accepted after our interview day. I'm not sure if I'm answering your question, mostly because I'm really not sure exactly what went on during the other interviews to make them less appealing? Send me a message & I'll try to think of more to help you out!

Hey, I interviewed on January 20th and I got accepted there. PBA is the first school I have heard back from. I, as well am trying to get into UF. My GPA is a 3.46... which I hear is borderline on the lower end of the border. There have been "rumors" that as of now they are only looking at GPAs of 3.5 and above... but I'm ignoring that and hoping it won't matter. Your high PCAT score may help you out. But as far as PBA goes, I think with just about any pharmacy school these days there are a lot of people that want to get in and just not enough positions in the class. I couldn't tell you what their "criteria" were for picking me... I'm not really religious at all. I just told them that it didn't bother me. That seemed to be a good enough answer for them.

Nope, not rumors. As of right now that is the criteria(it's actually math/science 3.4 and up). Will it change?, are there exceptions?...who knows. I guess you'll just have to wait it out and see.

I recently heard PBA is like a "cult"... has anyone else heard anything about this? I am in NO way trying to bash the school. I'm just a little worried, as its the only school I've gotten into so far. 😕 😕 😕

I'm in Fl and didn't apply to PBA because of the whole "pharmacy with faith" thing they have there. However, I haven't heard anything about a "cult" environment. I personally don't know anyone who goes there or who has even applied there. I applied to Nova and UF only, and I am going to go with UF.

I don't know about it being a "cult", other than Christianity is already a "cult" of Judaism.

I do know that I used to email with a girl who got accepted. Once she started class, she never wrote to me again. I went to ASP midyear and saw her there. She said "hi", but didn't want to talk. She just stayed in her PBA group.

For an exercise, go to last year's acceptance Roll Call. Look up the PBA students. Then look to see the last time that they posted. They go away. It's weird.

If someone gets accepted this year and is going to attend, promise to return to SDN and post about campus life. If you'll get kicked out of school for doing that, just PM me and let me know.

I am VERY familiar with PBA. I live in NOrth Carolina and go to graduate school at NC STate MS/PhD program in statistics, but my first piano teacher was there and sh e is still there. So I know about the school all the way from about 1987. At that time, there was no pharmacy school and the school was called Palm Beach Atlantic COLLEGE. The music department performed a lot of classical music and christian music. There are definitely mandatory church meetings if you were an undergraduate, and most people went at that time to SPECIFICALLY attend a Christian school. There were often prayers directly during classes.

But even though they seem nice, they are actually very strict people. Here is a story. When I was only age 9, I successfully auditioned on the violin for their COLLEGE orchestra, which takes both high school students and PBA students. However, I stood out as a target and made some mistakes and after the first rehearsal, I was kicked out! Also, they pride religion. Remember at this time, there was no pharmacy school and very few people had even heard of it.

One more thing, THEY WILL NOT ALLOW A BOYFRIEND AND GIRLFRIEND TO STAY IN THE SAME ROOM EVEN OFF CAMPUS! Only married couples can stay together. This is a strong Baptist idea. So remember this if you are considering to go there!

ONe more bit of history, one person who founded the pharmacy school was the famous golfer Jack Nicklaus, "the golden bear." He lives in North Palm Beach, my home town, but in a very fancy area near A1A on the ocean called Lost Tree Village. Originally from Columbus, OH, Jack's father was a pharmacist, and he gave A LOT OF MONEY to PBA to help open their school.
My high school, the Dreyfoos school of the Arts, next to the Kravis Center for the performing, had a lot of collaboration with their music department. So they were still this way in the 90's when I graduated high school.

So my opinion, if you are comfortable with a very, strict religious environment than by all means go! If not, you may want to rethink your plans.

It IS a tight, knit close welcome family for those who can fit in well!

I'm still hoping to get word from PBA. I grew up while alternating between baptist and catholic churches... and all the worldwide traveling/culture learning I've done has made me a very tolerant baptholic. 😳 I know I'll have conflicting beliefs with the hardcore fundamentalists, but I'm very set on my own values and no school will change that. I may just have to tolerate somebody's intolerance. 😳 PBA is my second choice and if I get accepted I'll certainly keep posting on SDN. 😛

From the dean of admissions...Obviously there are exceptions, in your wife's case a perfect pcat made up for a lower gpa. But if she had an 80 pcat, that's a different story.

Sooo... if you live off campus, how do they know if you live together? I had read about the "cohabitation" thing... but they never embellished on the subject at the interview intro. Just mentioned the word. I had no clue what they meant by it. I'm thinking they would never know if you lived with a boyfriend/girlfriend if you lived off campus and never mentioned anything about it to fellow classmates/teachers.

As far as me getting in, like I said I'm not really religious... but I can deal with it being around me. But I do have to say... I've got my fingers crossed that I get in somewhere else. High tuition prices + high rent + crazy rules does not equal a happy situation in my mind.

Teachers that work for private church schools have to abide by the same rooming rules. They also can't go to the movie theatres, rent rated R movies, go to the beach, etc.. They may get visited by the church deacons or the pastor so if they're sharing an apartment with a bf/gf and they answer the door, they'd get talked to.

I suspect a member of PBA may visit your apartment just to say hi... so they can check up on ya.

So are you saying that students are not allowed to do these things?

I was about to say the same thing... are you trying to say that kids that go to PBA don't go and see movies? Especially rated R movies? I'll be 23 when I start pharmacy school... I find it hard to believe anyone would be worried about me seeing a rated R movie. And as far as the beach goes... the school is practically ON the beach, and when I went for an interview they said students go to the beach all them time. So what do you mean by that?

Yeah, I don't need any visits from anyone. Although, I find it hard to believe they would waste their time visiting all their students that live off campus. I just think they would spend more time looking after undergrad students that pharmacy students. Who knows though... anyone else heard anything about crazy rules at PBA?

Oh no... I doubt they'd go that far. at least I hope not... but it's just an example of how strict a contract with a church school can go.
