Technology palm doc readers/databases/etc...

hiya,
in the process of downloading software for palm, and noticed that some freeware require doc readers (e.g. iSilo). is it worth buying that doc reader, or possible to happily get by on the free version, or are there others that you recommend? or do you think doc readers are unneccesary?
also wondered what you recommend for making your own mini notes on the wards. would 'memo' do the job, or is it worth downloading 'list', or some other program. i've heard of bonzai, but know nothing more.
so far have downloaded (all free stuff):
ABGpro, John Hopkins ABXguide, C-tools 2.0, Diagnosaurus, EpocratesRx, Eponyms, MedCalc, PalmEKG, Medical Approaches.
anything else you particularly recommend?
so many questions! would really appreciate any answers/advice...

I'd recommend sticking with free mode until you are sure you will be using the documents a lot. Sometimes you find an iSilo document that you'll refer to everyday and it's worth getting the full version for hyperlinks and things.

Other ways to optimise your PDA as a revision tool:

1. If u do a lot of own notes in MS Word format, just transfer them (after converting into Pocket Word format) into ur PDA, and read from there.

2. Or save all ur Word documents in "web page" format, and then use iSiloX ( http://www.isilox.com/ ) to clip it, and then read with iSilo either in ur laptop/desktop, or in PDA (can be on both platforms --- PPC or Palm).

3. Use iSiloX to clip those webpages which provide free informational contents (eg. gpnotebook, merck manual etc...), and then transfer them into ur PDA, and u can view anytime, without having to go online. But please... do not use it illegally on other paid sites! 😉

There are many other ways, just put ur imagination to work!
