Anyone else have this ranked high on their list? I really liked the place. Just wondering how many people out there have it in their top 2 or 3.

ETA- This is my first post ever on this forum. Hope I'm not introducing myself incorrectly. 🙂

Yeah, welcome to the Emergency Medicine forum, where we will soon take over General residency with posters like you!

And to answer your question, did not interview there, so not in my top 3. Although I guess I could have put it in there just for the heck of it.

Done. 🙂

At the top. #1 on my list. Maybe I'll see you there.

No. 2 on my list, but would be very happy to match there.

I really liked it when I interviewed there last year. Seemed like a great program.

Take care,
Jeff

I actually chose not to interview there because it was one of my later scheduled interviews and I had already seen way too many great places. Jeff had told me about Mayo and I loved that place, so I assumed I would love Palmetto as well. I didn't need any more confusion and indecision than I already had. Actually 3 people who were prior medics like me told me they loved it there and would have ranked it 1st if not for being in SC. That should tell you something!

What do people have against SC?

The deep south is not a terribly great place for DO's, or for people of ethnic heritage if you asked me. I don't exactly look ethnic as I am rather watered down, but myself and subsequently my children carry the indiscreet name of my father.....a Hispanic name. I have lived in North Carolina and I found it to be a little bit of an ethnic dichotomy. I am sure its not as bad as I am making it out to be but at this stage in life I want my kids to be around open minded people. I have found the midwest to be the best part of the country other than maybe Cali for all around general acceptance and open mindedness. And SC has terribly humid and hot summers which are exactly like what I am trying to get away from here in the humid part of Texas. And you can't get iced tea thats unsweetened!!

I interviewed on one of their last interview days - only me and one other person were interviewing. I really liked the program, especially the EMS exposure. I ranked it #4, but it was my highest ranked program outside of Texas!
