I just filled out the paperwork for starting residency. There was something pretty exhilarating about this. There was also something scary in an Orwellian sort of way. It looks like they want to know pretty much everything about my physical and mental health. All sorts of viral titers. Background check. Urine drug screen. I'm still waiting for the rectal probe. Anyone else find this a bit much?

I went through the same thing. I don't think it is too much though, considering the fact you will be a doctor, someone with access to all kinds of meds, patient info and etc. Also, you will be a representative of your program for life, so I can understand why they want to know everything about you. It does not, however, make the rectal probe I got any less painful. Peace out.

Wow, that sounds really elaborate. All I had to do was a background check and proof of up-to-date vaccines. No titers, no utox.

So far I have spent 3+ hours filling out paperwork for fellowship, and it will include all of the above (no rectal probes mentioned yet) and fingerprinting at the VA. I cannot remember how many forms I signed allowing criminal and background checks. Oh, and my picture has to be notarized as really being me. Will anyone else show up and volunteer for this? 😱
