I'm in Boston for an away rotation at Tufts, and was told before coming here, that I was required to have a car (presumably because a good portion of their program is in Providence, and I'll be commuting down there sometimes). Well, now I'm here, living in the South End and I have NO IDEA what to do with my car. I don't mind paying a monthly rate to park it in a garage, but it seems like most garages don't allow overnight parking. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am not from Boston, but can you leave the car in the med school or hospital garage over night?

2 rules for living in Boston.

1. Live within walking distance of a T station.

2. Make sure you have off street parking if you have a car.

This isn't really helpful when the med school tells you you have to bring a car.

Off street parking is very helpful when med school tells you to bring a car. Furthermore, Tufts Med Center is right off the Orange Line (have their own station even). Even if your car is parked off street, you can still take the T.

boston parking is impossible. when i lived there i just paid for a 24 garage pass ($275/mo) which was easiest but pricey. you can google search monthly garage passes and come up with the places that do it. generally the garages run between 200-300/month for 24hr access. you can take your chances with on street parking but remember that you will need to get a resident parking permit most places because only a few spots are designated for visitors or unrestricted. even the unrestricted spots have restrictions because you need to move it depending on the street cleaning schedule and also snow emergencies if there in the winter. my suggestion would be if there is any possible way to avoid a car do that.....if not just spring for the garage- it will make your life much easier.

You're gonna need to pay $250+/month for overnight parking in a garage. There aren't really any other options. Maybe try posting an add on Craigslist looking to rent a parking space for a month? I know we rented our when we weren't using it.

Also, I am at Tufts (not a med student) if you want to grab a coffee let me know!
