Part 2 Case Based Qstns!!

Hi! i was just wondering if anyone who is preparing for / finished Part 2 will throw light upon how they felt about the case based questions (the second day) as these questions seem to be pretty complicated, and though i felt my approach to the treatment plan was so right, upon checking the answers, i felt..gosh! i'd just missed the right one by a whisker! did anyone else feel the same?
approximately how many correct answers out of 100 is considered a good score for this section?
also does anyone have any info about past statistics which corelates the number of correct answers to the approximate total score one will get in the part 2 ? i remember, a similar table existed with respect to the 1998 paper for the Part 1 exam...

Parulis: Another way of saying "gum boil," draining sinus tract or fistula.

Lingual crossbite: Just do a search on "crossbite" on Yahoo and you will get plenty of hits with photos.

I know what a cross bite is .But I havent come cross anything as LINGUAL cross bite in the posterior region .I read it in one of the case based questions frm ASDA reprints. so wondering what is the exact mean of the term!!!!

I apologize for not having read your message at all, I am not one of those who diligently read everything.

I totally understand what you were saying, when I did the first booklet, I also got a lot of mistakes. But theses mistakes are what you can learn from, learn how the examiners think. you know dentsitry isn't so rigid, there are diagnosis that we just tend to ignore sometimes, so the questions are there to teach you how the examiners think. THe more mistakes you have, the better, but not on questions that ask fundamental knowlege ( like application of a technique, definition of a terme......a term, sorry my "francoanglais melange".... )

the case based questions, from my experience, were the easier part of the entire exam while I prepared, and they even got easier during the exams. THe cases are very simple and straightforward, no catch like some of the questions in the booklets. I think Perio, ortho, pedo, prostho, are important part of these questions.

Don't worry about case based questions, they are fun, better than multiple chocies questions.

I am not sure if I answer your question, if I don't , please let me know

Please note that during the exam, there is a question that asked for definition of a term, and none of the answers have the " REAL" right answer, in these cases, you just have to guess !

hey organic! thanks for your reply....well i understood how emphatic you were in your reply.....but can you please be a little more objective by letting us know ,approximately how many correct answers out of 100 is considered a good score for each section of the exam? or rather how many you atleast think you got right, in your exam?
also am glad that you say that you too felt the same about those qstns, as i was like.....have I forgotten my treatment planning skills?....anyways looking forward for this reply......

i can exactly remember the qstn you are talking about in the ASDA papers, which says "lingual cross bite" yeah..in the pic they actually show posterior cross bite which they call as "lingual cross bite"..so basically its the same....

I think by the time I was 1/3 through the booklets I did, I got almost 100% correct on cas based parts.

When I took part2 computer based exams, except for " behavior/ clinical psychology " type of questions, I was sure of the answers for each question.

but K'jal, don't waste your time worrying about how many questions others did right or wrong . Exam is also a matter of luck, and everything else. If you don't have time constraint, go with a confident mind loaded with knowledge, because it will be useful for the future too.

For right now, the more mistakes you make in the exam reprints, the better. Because it means that you are learning a great deal!!!! and it is all worth the price to buy the set!

Unless you found yourself making a bunch of mistakes, but you just don't check for the right answers and review the relevant topics...

if you find yourself all getting right answers in the exam reprints, then you don't have to buy the set! go take the exam!

you know what I mean? making mistakes with these reprints is a GOOD THING. you are learning something

1.before inserting amlgm into an MODa matrix is placed ard the tooth and next step is;-
a]band is burnished into cpontact with adjacent teeth
b]matrix retainer tightened as much as possible and reinforced facially and lingually with compund
c]tapered wedges placed interproxmally to obtain close adation at g'val margins
d]tapered wedgse placed carefully to hold band in close adaptation to g'val margins without separating teeth

in all there are 11 ('A' to 'K') and only the last 2 i.e J and K series have the case based questions....
and yeah about the wrong answers, i am just wondering what to do on the exam day? whether to tick the answer given by the ADA like a slave (if i even remember it exactly) or do i play it "smart" by ticking the "virtual" correct answer??
any suggestions from anyone??

i started doing the 1995 question series which has the cases,its tough!!i was shocked,though i could solve half of the q's correctly,but not confidently.compared to the dental decks cases and the kaplan book cases its really tough and i agree that it has unreasonable solutions,thats why i decided to go with kaplan cases,its more acceptable scientifically and it has more reasonable answers.

question no 66 .case no 7;
it says the dentist shud leave tooth no #16 in pl. EXCEPT theres no #16.its missing???!!!!!!😡

hey i think thats an ok qstn....what they are trying to ask you is whether is it necessary for the dentist to do anything with tooth 16 (3rd molar!) at this point of time (as it is impacted you see)
what they basically must have intended is whether one should intentionally perform exploratory surgery for the impacted tooth or just wait and watch............very silly qstn though!
