That makes no sense.

Okay so I put 10 pathologists on staff and collect 800K year, pay those guys a total of 20K to use their names, make 780K, sit at home drink whiskey and I win?

There is a big statistical difference between what average pathologists make for medical directorships and what you can negotiate. The 2 literally have nothing to do with each other.

Maybe a small hospital is all outpatient path, maybe a big trauma center needs 30 min response time, maybe its medically directing a GI pod lab, there are tons and tons of variables to consider to make such average calculation utterly useless.

I don't disagree.

The most unfortunate thing is getting paid nothing.
Too often groups are faced with finding another job or taking zero.

I have personally NEVER known anyone to get zero, I assumed that was urban legend until last year when a new CEO Im working with met me for drinks to discuss new opportunities. He said was surprised when he learned of my fees because where he was from "there were a few pathology groups who got literally nothing for directorships".

I quickly responded they were suckers then, he nodded in agreement and then we cheered with our 20 buck Manhattans. Dunno. Bringing up examples of losers doesnt seem to be a good business strat or proper role model, right?

If I was drinking right now and properly buzzing I might say the entire culture of getting zero compensation began with a certain gender entering pathology, but that would be sexist and I would be banned so I absolutely wont mention it. But yah....yah...

I don't think it is due to this gender entering pathology, as if it were, dermatology would be in a similar situation, and obgyn would as well.

I think, and this is at risk of triggering folk, it is because of the high FMG contingent being in perpetual "survival mode" as you so eloquently stated in the past.

As pathology is a commodity, and some pathologists (I would wager the FMGs) are accepting a fee of ZERO, then that's the going rate. Sad but true.

I am not a billing or compliance wizard, but wouldn't charging nothing for directorships amount to illegal inducement?

Absolutely but this does not stop some hospitals from doing this. You have to be willing to stand your ground.
Has nothing to do with being a FMG. I see US grads cave too.
It is totally up personalities that negotiate. Being in a small group it is easily to be intimidated.
Most people don't how to negotiate any kind of deal.

Not to mention it is easy to replace 5-6 people.

This number seems right. It would jive with a group that spends around 25 or 30% of its time on part A activities using the calculation.

Lets imagine your CEO popped some "market equation" on you like that, why would you take call?? Are you getting a separate call stipend??

Still not making sense to me. Physicians just to be on call make 400-800 a NIGHT + anything they bill when they come in.

Im not seeing how this adds up still, help me.

There is NO job outside maybe enlisted military service where you are on call 24-7 and potentially expected to show up where you are pulling 80/year. None, not even escorts/thugs/dealers.

LA

Do YOU get a specific payment for taking call? If so, how much per unit of time.

Of course I do. Im not a epic *****, Im an actual businessman.

If I ran a business and had to PAY a pathologist to take call, how much would that cost. This is the analysis I did when I set my price, I literally called up a locums company and asked them.

Im extra f'ing salty today boys because I went partying last night and some female surgeon told a mutual friend that "All pathologists are wierd" and so the mutual friend then asked me why I was a pathologist...THIS IS FROM DECADES OF BETA PATHOLOGISTS WHO ARE TOO AFRAID TO ASK FOR ANYTHING, BEING WALLFLOWERS, ACCEPTING GENDERSCRAPS FROM SOCIETY FOR MATES AND GENERALLY BEING UNDERPAID BY EVERY IMAGINABLE METRIC.
I hate being embarrassed by everyones total incompetence in social functioning. I hate it, really hate it.

If you were an actual cool guy, you wouldn't give two ****s what some skank thought about you being a pathologist.

I agree but why am I actually having to deal with this?? It gets me going, blood pressure just hits the roof.

Like Im a the member of a club of actual good hardworking people but everyone keeps dumping on them but Im forced to watch in some uncomfortable torture out of a SAW remake about medical specialists. I DONT want people to take advantage of young/stupid pathologists. Thats wrong and my internal sense of justice makes me want to go all John Wick at times.

Sounds like you need to gat laid more.

I walked away from many contracts because they refused to pay for call. It took a long time before I found one that would.

All of the places I walked from found some idiot who did not value their own time outside of work.

Pathology recruits far too many people, and far too many weak people.

Sounds like you need to gat laid more.

Dave I have been needing to get laid more since I was 16...literally maybe 10 days out of ten thousand+ I felt full up on sex and said "no mas".

I tried a 1xsex act per day minimum diet plan for like a week but that is hard to stick to. Time is a killer, you have like a window of maybe a few hours a day you arent wiped out, stressed out, busy with life/work to even consider it and then you need attractive naked female practically at your beckon call to get it done. And I say this from the luxury of having a wife who looks like a fitness model. Even then its hard. You can do everything right and still the underemployed stoner blazing up in my rental unit next door will be "living the dream".

I need to just retire and ride the passive income train to focus more on it. Getting up everyday, suiting up to work the 9-5 is a sucker's life. Maybe 6 months of vacation a year? Dunno. If youve found the magic formula please do tell.

We are on the same page. I want to retire at 55 and pursue hobbies. I got a good looking woman also. Love it, but I want to live a life of leisue soon.
