Hey guys,

I am just heading into my fourth year in my science degree, and I am going to be applying to medical schools this year.

For the past 3 years, I have been a full time student at my school. For this 4th year, I dont have very many classes left to complete my degree. Because of this, I will lose my status as a full-time student.

Do medical schools care if you are a part-time student for just 1 year of your degree? Also, do you guys think I should pick up a few ECs to balance out my free time?

I appreciate any advice.

Thanks!

Considering you're applying later in this cycle, it would be wise to live the next year as if you may need to reapply. I wouldn't view part-time status as a big deal if you are staying busy in other ways. And ideally those "other ways" would make good fodder for Secondaries, application update letters, and interview conversations by enhancing your ECs or filling weak areas, as well as maybe bring in some income. In other words, don't use your free time to play video games 8 hours per day.

Alternatively, if allowed, this might be your last chance to learn about other disciplines, enhance foreign language skills, take some accounting or business classes that might help you in future practice, or whatever.
