Hi all,

So I’ve recently received an offer from an interesting, reputable clinic concerning a post-doctoral “fee-for-service” part-time (about 20hrs/week) position. The money obviously isn’t as good as a full-time position, but I love the location and the training seems like it’d be a great fit. I’m wondering if anyone else has gone this route following graduation/internship? Right now, I’m definitely considering it, perhaps with an adjunct teaching position as well (which I believe also can count toward licensure? Unsure about all states..)

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has also gone the part-time route? If so, how it was it? Did you find additional employment/another part-time position? And if you could go back, would you go that route again??

Still very much undecided on post-doctorate/obtaining hours toward licensure, so any advice is welcome really. This is just my first offer so it’s been on my mind..Thanks in advance!

If you work two part-time post-docs, can both sets of hours count towards licensure (assuming both sites meet the necessary standards re: supervision, etc.)?

Yes, definitely confirmed that all hours would count toward licensure. I’m still attempting to find a second while not shutting out a full-time position, my supervisor suggested perhaps trying to join a group practice (getting supervised hours but no additional training), which I’ve been considering as well.

I suppose the main thing would be making sure I get my hours in a reasonable time-frame..It seems with 2 part-times it may take 2 years though they assured me this hasn’t been an issue (looking around to confirm this as well)

As was said, I would expect two part-time postdocs would still count toward postgraduate hours, assuming you had adequate supervision in place in both locations. You could always double-check the state regs to be absolutely sure.

RE: length of time spent accruing the postdoc supervised hours, I'd check directly with the state board and regulations, as some states may place a time limit on this.
