Just a quick question. I am a senior and just decided to go to dental school. This means that I am done with all of my requirements for my major and minor except for one class which I will take after I finish the DAT. Now here is the question. Is it safe fore me to simply take one science class per semester? That is what I plan to do now. Take only 4 credits each semester including both summer sesions to be done by next year. This would mean that I will have all this time to study for my class!

So what do you guys think? Will dental scholls frown upon this? Is there anything negative about what I want to do? Would the schools think that I am slacking off or something? Thanks.

I did this. I had been out of college for three years when I decided that I wanted to pursue dentistry. I had a chemistry major but lacked all but 1 biology course. So I went back and took them. I did 8 hours during one summer semester. Which, by the way, I don't reccommend. It was way too much work. I took four hours the next summer semester and 3 hours in the fall to complete my required courses. Not once did a school question me about it.

cool. How did you end up doing in the summer. Im a little worried because this summer I will have to take Bio 2 summer 1, and Chem 2 Summer 2. I just want to know how difficult I should expect it to be?

It should be easy...well I guess it depends. I took physics 1 and psychology at the same tim, 8 credit hours, and then the second summer session I took physics 2. Honestly it was so easy I was amazed. All I had to do was go to class and take notes and do the homework. I rarely studied, except some cramming 3 hours before tests. Now there were many people in my physics class who had a lot of trouble with the class, but that could just be due to the fact that they hated it. This was at IU south bend. I was used to studying hard at my small liberal arts college, and the summer school I took at IU was refreshing to say the least, no comparison. Maybe my experience is unique...I am not sure. But everybody at my school knows that if you want easy A's in a class, just take it in the summer at a state school. All pre-med/dent majors at my school take physics in the summer at state schools because its an easy A. Not knocking any state schools btw, it might be just a summer thing!

I did well during summer school. I got A's in all my classes. However during the semester where I took 8 hours (microbiology and anatomy 1) I nearly killed myself to do it. I literally studied from the time I got up until the time I went to bed. It had alot to do with the fact that my micro teacher believed in reading every chapter in the book so we were reading 2-3 chapters a day. And you had to actually read them because he gave daily quizzes over them. But since you are just going to take 4 hours a semester you should be fine. In my experience summer science classes aren't a breeze because it's a lot of information condensed into a small amount of time but as long as you apply yourself and don't get behind you will do well. Good Luck! 🙂

thanks for the encouragement every1. Im a bit worried about the labs though. I guess Im going to have to do a lab everyday, and some professors can be really tough on them.
