partnership at a group?

can someone enlighten me? seems like it takes 1-2 yrs to make partner...but what benefits does being partner offer? thx
 
These arrangements are not as fixed as they are in law. They vary a lot from group practice to group practice.

My Dad is in a group practice. When he joined, I guess you could say he was already a "partner". They paid him a fixed salary the first 2 years, then after that he took in what his practice pulled in minus personal and shared expenses.
 
I worked for a Radiology group and learned how they made partners. It took at least 4 years and you were not assured a partnership. The reimbursement is similar as above, fixed salary until partner$$$$.

One doc told me about a group near his residency that used to take people on partnership tracks and let them go when they should have joined (I think he said they got in trouble for this). 😕
