Anyone care to share?
Do we need to know this anyways?

This is what I have so far.

Medulla Oblongata = breathing
Hypothalamus = temperature/AP Hormone regulation
Cerebellum = sensory/muscle movement
Cerebrum = complex though

Any more?

Bio MCAT has been a b**** to study for, since I never learned any anatomy/physio in any of my classes.

I think the hippocampus is really important. It's involved with learning and memory (often spacial memory). I think those are the big functions. Its exact role in memory is still disputed today, but I think just "memory" is sufficient. It's been called the "cognitive map."

It's my favorite brain structure. 😀 Robert Sapolsky gave a talk about how chronic stress actually atrophies the hippocampus due to the release of glucocorticoids.

Yes, I have seen it come up to, so I was just seeing if I was missing any important functions.

if you are going to learn the brain why would you leave out the lobes and their functions? Frontal, occipital, temporal, etc. I dont think its necessary to learn the function of all of these parts of the brain. The definitions that you have for the parts youve listed are extremely basic. If there was a question on any of those parts, it would be much more difficult and require more knowledge i'm guessing. Good news is i doubt you would see a stand alone. Its more likely that it would show up in a passage in whcih case you can use the passage to answer any question they give you.

My high school teacher taught us an easy way to remember the general function of hippocampus. She said, "If you ever saw a hippo running across campus, you would never forget it."

I like that hippo campus one. I didn' tknow we had to memorize that part.

Also wondering if somoene could tell me what the pons does.
This is what I got

Pons
: Some autonomic (respiration/arousal). Balance antigravity posture.

I think the main ones that I see.. at least on the practice questions are: Medulla, Cerebral cortex, Cerebellum. Those are usually the ones that I get together in one question. Maybe the hypothalamus.
