Aloha!

I am trying to decide whether to take calculus with a grade or pass/fail. My major does NOT require calculus and no dental school which I plan to apply to requires calculus. The only reason why I am taking calculus is to take physics. My school only offers calculus based physics and obviously calculus is a prerequisite. (I have checked and my school does not offer any other type of physics.) Math is not my forte and 5 credits of C's because of the calculus would hurt my GPA. Also the teacher that I am stuck with is horrible.

I need your guys help in deciding if a P on my transcript would be a big negative or if the pro's outweigh the cons. Thank you so much for the help and advice! Mahalos!

As long as your list of dental schools doesn't require it as a prereq, then I think it's fine. I know some dental schools don't allow pass/fail or even W grades for their prerequisite courses so I think you're in the clear. Though, I have no idea how the adcoms will view a P on a transcript for a (technically) science course. I'm also not sure how P's are calculated into the GPA, but if you're sure that taking the P will better your GPA rather than hurt you, then I say go for it!

Thank you @okiedokeartichoke for the advice. I am not sure either how a P would look in the eyes of the adcoms. If anyone knows and could share with us, that would be great!

I've heard that P's are calculated as C-'s or D's at Medical Schools (only hearsay). Don't know anything about Dental Schools.

Study study for it and get an A, your probably gonna get a bad grade in physics if you suck at math, why waste time and not get the grade. if you study for it then it might help your GPA

I wasn't doing so hot in my pre-calc class and I moved it to pass fail. I needed it to take calc and ended up with an A- in Calc. It's weird how it ended up but no dental school has told me it's an issue yet. If you already have a lot of Pass fail credits than don't do it. But if it's your first one then it shouldn't be an issue in my opinion. Whatever that is worth ha.
