I'm getting nervous about my grades this semester. So far, I'm going to miss 6 days of classes for interviews... in September alone

What about you guys. Do you expect it to take a heavy toll on school?

I am so not looking forward to the strain this is going to put on school 👎

It's not something to be nervous about, I don't think. As long as you're not missing any papers or tests, there shouldn't be much of a problem. Just study up and make sure you can get notes from somebody.

You shouldn't worry too much about missing classes. Of course, do your best to avoid missing exams and such, but scheduling hassles are just another part of the application process.

For me, I only had classes on Tuesday and Thursday during application season so it was ridiculously easy for me to avoid missing classes. However, 99% of people won't have it this easy so almost everyone is going to be in the same boat as you. Professors understand (for the most part), so all you can do is try your best to schedule things well.

If you're already accepted at a med school, do your last courses still matter?

My interviews so far are before classes start... luckily UCs start on 9/25...

Also, I only have one class on MWF, at 8 in the morning, and the lectures are available online so it is not too bad... I think...

I've already emailed my professors and told them that I would be missing class this semester due to interviews.

I have set up arrangements with them so that I can tape record the lecture and listen to it when I get back.

I don't think I'll miss more than 10 classes and hopefully fewer. I only have one class on Mondays and Fridays and I'm going to try to see if I can rearrange the schedule so I have no classes at all on those days.

:luck:

A lot of schools, if not all, require a final transcript once you are accepted. Will they revoke the offer if you stop going to class and your grades plummet? I can't say. Do you want to find out? Probably not.

Just keep doing your work with a big smile on your face.

I'm on really good terms with the profs that I will have this fall, so I don't think it will be much of an issue for me to make-up work (I have 2 labs). I am a bit concerned about finding someone who takes good notes. The tape recorder idea sounds good, but that would involve spending money to buy one....

Missing work is going to be a pain.

i didn't go to class throughout all of undergrad... missing 6 days isn't going to hurt you ... just get the notes from a friend when you get back and read ahead in the text when you can.

Generally I was fortunate enough to draw interviews over breaks or on days when I didn't have class. The worst exception was an interview in '07 where I missed a day for the interview, then another unexpectedly due to a snowstorm and the interstate being closed.
