First of all this is my first post. This looks like a great forum for information and I look forward to future posts.

Here is my problem. Out of high school I went to university in Canada. A series of events and bad choices ended up in me failing out of school. To get a fresh start I moved to the US to take care of my grandmother, reapplied to school as a freshman at a state school, graduating in 3 years with a 3.8 gpa and a 32Q mcat. I've done research in two labs and volunteer at the hospital as well as worked to pay for tuition and other activities.

For my application where I send transcripts, do I need to send my transcript from Canada even though I didn't take any of the credits from there and started all over again? If I do need to do that, do I have no chance of getting into med school?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Send in ALL transcripts. With your GPA and MCAT, you have a great chance. Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm going to figure out how to get that cover letter to them for the transcripts...

From the AMCAS FAQ site: AMCAS requires that official transcripts from all U.S. and Canadian post-secondary institutions are submitted, regardless of which school(s) accepted this credit.

AMCAS will calculate a GPA for you (using all your transcripts) individually for each year, freshman through senior, and then totals them. Yes, the frosh GPA will be lower, but each following year will show an upward trend. Your Personal Statement can address the disparity. You do have a chance. You will see other posts in this forum about what happens if you "forget" that Canadian transcript. Don't do it.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I'm going to have to send them in. Hope I can still get in somewhere. So to do that I have to print out that transcript cover letter thing, send it to my school in Canada and ask them to send the transcript with the cover letter thing to AMCAS? Sounds like it's going to take a while...
