hey everyone ok what is that technique kaplan usually teaches for the front/top/end view portion of the PAT i know its something like counting the lines? does this include soild and dotted line alike? thanx again😀

The line-counting strategy allows you to usually eliminate 2-3 of the answer choices.

Basic breakdown:
Top view - horizontal lines/breaks associate with vertical lines/breaks on end view; vertical lines/breaks associate with vertical lines on front view
End view - vertical lines/breaks associate with horizontal lines/breaks on top; horizontal lines/breaks associate with horizontal lines/breaks on front
Front view - vertical lines/breaks associate with vertical lines/breaks on top; horizontal lines/breaks associate with horizontal lines/breaks on end

I think that's right...if it's not, someone correct me before sexydmd screws this strategy up...lol

After this, you should be able to eliminate 1-2 answer choices. Look at the remaining answer choices and see what's different between the 2. It's usually one line (solid or perforated). At that point, it should be pretty easy to differentiate which is the correct 2D depiction.

If you struggle with this still, have someone who did well on the PAT guide you through what they did on the top/front/end section.

how do you do the last section of the PAT..the pattern folding?? Do you fold into the screen...and how do you where to fold? please let me know thanks

you fold into the screen at the lines that separate the different shapes. they make it pretty obvious to know where u need to fold the pattern. i hope i made myself clear. lol.

Okay...pattern folding...my worst section of the PAT...LOL

This is what I do...anyone else have a better strategy, please share.

First off, I fold into the screen. For the patterns that don't have any weird patterns or shapes on the sides, I just determine what figure is made. This is easily done by determining what the base shape is (usually the largest one and will usually have 2 copies).

For the ones that have shapes or figures (i.e. dice), it's a bit more difficult to explain. Pretty much all I do is use the process of elimination. I'll take one side of the answer choice and determine if the adjacent sides are correct based on the figure. If one works, I put the answer down and don't even look at the other answer choices.

Example...Question 78 on PAT 1 of Topscore
I look at option A...I know that if the shaded trapezoid is in front, the long, thin shaded trapezoid on top is on the left side. I ALSO know that the side with the shaded triangle MUST be on the same side of the long, thin shaded rectangle up top (hidden in option A). So A is a possible answer...thus I choose A without looking at the other answer choices. If A doesn't work, then I just move on to B and see if it can work.
(I haven't taken this test yet...if anyone can confirm A is the right answer)

I hope that helps...this section of the test really has no strategy other than practice practice practice...
