I have a question regarding this section of the DAT. The directions from ADA says that they will not turn the paper, but I've came across several questions where the paper is turned, one of them was in the 2005 practice test in the ADA booklet. How do you guys go about this? I find these questions harder to visualize. 😱

I had the same problem, but trust me the page is NEVER turned. Try taking a square piece of paper and folding it the same way as the questions. If you come to a fold that you feel needs a turn, try other fold options and you will find a fold that will make the right figure without a turn!

good luck.

for this section it is beneficial to have a square handy to fold around. quickly you will no longer need it and will be able to unfold it in your head.

It's never turned? Hmm, can you unfold something, and then fold twice in one step?

yeah i agree with howui3, the square is NEVER turned, that would change the rules of that section. Im also pretty sure that the figure is folded only once per step. Here's a trick I find helpful. Draw the figure before and after (quick sketch), and look for a middle line (where the figure was folded to yield a the new one). That'll give you a point of reference to unfold the figure. Again it's NEVER folded.....that would be like removing the hidden cubes (covered on all sides) from the middle of the block counting 😀

Hello Tracy, I looked in the ADA book for you, I dont have the barrons... The one on the ADA book is not rotated.. Ok let me see if I can explain this...

In the first fold, they folded 1/4 of the paper vertically on the left side (the box above answer A) Now, from that fold (still on the paper above answer A) mentally pinch the bottom right corner of the paper and bring it ALL the way up till it meets the top left corner (COVERING even the area that you folded the initial 1/4 fold from... ie.. to the top corner with the dashed lines), you will now have the shape of the paper over answer B) and the one above C) is the same just with the hole in it.... Does that help at all or even make any sense??

Thank you so much Kremlar! I was so frustrated, it's that simple! I feel so slow now 😛 So the rule is, there will be a single fold in each figure, and the paper is NEVER turned, right?

Thanks again! 🙂

Im just glad you understood my explanation..lol.... It can get frustrating, but dont let it get to you... You will do great... Your better off finding out all these things now, than when your infront of that computer screen when it counts... As for the rule, just to clarify, Each sucessive BOX will contain 1 fold, the entire thing will contain multiple folds, followed by a hole punch... but the paper will NEVER TURN... according to their rules...
