Answer:B

For this keyhole problem, it looks like the rectangular hole in the object is way too short to pass through the rectangular block on answer choice B.

I could elminate all the answer down to answer B, but I thought the object was drawn to scale with the keyhole. So I can't imagine the object getting through the hole. In this problem it looks like the hole in the object is way too short to pass through this particular keyhole in answer choice B.

Any insights?

"A" has one side that is too short
"C" is uneven
"D" is fat
"E" is fat

so even if it looks too short, "B" is still the only possible answer.

It's a tossup on the scale factor. Not sure if the real DAT's do this, I do not think they do, other programs that try to emulate the DAT's do not put enough effort in making it perfect thus there are a lot of imperfections. That being said, everything else is drawn in proportion but just not the right keyhole fit. A more accurate answer would be if B had E's front length if you know what I mean.

The thing that throws me off with this section is scaling. What do they mean by scaling. I have the same hang up as OP when looking at this problem. It is obvious that the object is too large to fit into answer choice B. The Barrons DAT PAT section does this alot. Is that a mistake by illustrator? On the exam are the objects supposed to be of the same size as the hole so that if you took the object out of the page you could literally pass it through the hole? Is that what they mean by scaling i.e. all answer choices are scaled to each other? am i making any sense? any help would be well... helpful!
