hey everyone. i am struggling extremely hard when it comes to the PAT. i started studying for this section less than a week ago and i know it hasn't been much time but i just don't understand anything. i'm pretty decent at angles, cubes, and keyholes but when it comes to pattern folding, TFE, and hole punching, i am clueless.

does anyone have any advice that will help me out because i am beyond frustrated right now. thanks in advance.

oh and i've been using kaplan bb

First off don't use KBB as your primary source for PAT. Everything besides the hole punching and cube counting is too EASY for the actual DAT. Go out and buy Crack DAT PAT software.

I probably can't be much of a help as I am struggling with these as well.
I am working through crack dat pat and hole punching is biggest problem for me.
explanations are good but what's helping me the most is actually punching wholes on a square post it notes.i work through it and when I get it wrong, I try it out on a piece of post it note. I think its helping me out.

Pattern folding I am ok at it but I have hardest time doing dice looking ones with patterns on them. I just can't figure these out. I end up taking too much time and still get it wrong.

Also i forgot to mention if your having trouble getting started with the hold punching, actually get a piece of paper, fold it, and punch out the holes in it. This will help you get started and you will eventually learn how the folding actually works. I suggest to do the same with pattern folding, if the object isn't that complex to draw out.

Have to agree. KBB is way too easy. I missed 3 total on KBB but first crack dat pat I got a 19.

Also... when I am doing cube counting... I keep losing count... I hate that its on a computer and can't check off ones I counted...

I created my own method for PAT, I was actually pretty awful with it too... I was one of those guys that thought KKB's pat was hard when I first looked at it....

The method is posted here:

Hole punching is very simple. All you have to do is trace back the line of symmetry of the fold and make sure the previous holes are still there after unfolding. Every fold is over a single line of symmetry on the grid that's how I perceived it and I hardly missed one after I got the hang of it.

I thought this thread had some pretty good explanations for TFE, pattern folding and hole punching

One piece of advice I would give for TFE is to make sure you understand the ones without slopes and circles before doing problems that have those things in them. So theres a couple TFE on pages 2 and 3 that you should skip and then come back to at the end. Theres also a method of drawing a tic tac toe grid for hole-punching thats pretty good and i think condog might have a vid on it but i saw it somewhere else i cant remember. If you cant find it then let me know. To me hole-punching isnt as hard as TFE or pattern folding. But the section i hate are the keyholes. I usually feel like theres more than one correct answer. Anyone got any keyhole advice?
