for the original pattern, if you start with the lowest rectangle (with an L shaped shaded region) and count up to the third rectangle... that rectangle does not have the same shading as choice B (in B, this is the middle rectangle and thus the reason it's wrong).

as far as the second pattern... i was never very good at these. i would spend a few seconds folding it in my head and rotating it and if i couldn't find the answer quickly then i would guess and move on.

How does a diagonal line represented in TFE?

couple of example:

there is no way you will know it until you see the answer choices. And it can be part of the circle too.🙂

huh. is the answer to first TFE really A?? I feel like the answers C.

For 2nd TFE Q, choice A correctly shows the dotted line. since the smaller vertical block only covers a party of the big block behind it, bold line shows up for the part where small block covers the big block, and dotted line appears where the small block does not cover the big block.

The first one wasn't too bad, but the second was pretty tough. I actually made a small cutout of the image and put it together with these explanations.
Here are visual answers to both questions, just follow the colors.

Answers are C and then B.

Here's the answer to this one:

FYI, GIMP 2.0 was used to edit these images. An amazing FREE program that everyone should have. THE alternative to Photoshop. Learning curve is steep but its a great program. Its freeware, so feel free to spread the word.
