PAT questions, please help!

1. For question 17, How do you decide between A and C? what is the dash line on the left side of the end view?

2.For achiever test 3 keyhole question 4, how can you possible tell the rectangular box on the top left does not align with the edge of the underlying rectangle?

For number 4, if you look at the bottom right corner you will see the continuity of that angle going upwards. Then there is a box that is thicker on top. The side that faces you is completely planar, so it must be slightly protruding on the other side. As for the other side with the protruding box, same logic but it's more obvious. The correct frontal hole would be a combination of the bottom half of C and bottom half of A.

As for number 17, you know it's A because the small center piece is on the bottom as it is not planar with the upper surface as shown by the top view.
