i really suck at PAT. i have the CDP software and so far for each section I have made a 7-9/15 except cube counting- 14/15. This is without intense practice or searching for strategies yet. Did anyone else have this starting point and raise it a decent amount? What did you do? I'm concerned as to whether a ton of practice will ultimately help.

Also for everyones' weakest sections (mine is TFE), i'm thinking about focusing less on that section, since my improvement chances are lower. So basically I will settle for a 7-9 there, and aim for a 13+ on all other sections. Is that an okay strategy? I just feel like its fruitless to work on something i inherently can't grasp at all.
My goal is a 19-20..

thanks

I don't take DAT for another 1+ year or so, but already bought CDP because I was already freaking out lmao.

Can definitely say the more you practice, the better you get! When I first started, I was getting like 7/15 for keyholes, now I only miss 1 or 2. I'd definitely check out condog51's youtube videos, he has a ton of great tutorials!!! Good luck 😀😀

practice practice practice. on my diagnostic exam (kaplan) i got a 10, a TEN!!!!, on PAT. I'm up to about a 22 now (CDP). Take it slow at first and really try to see it. After a few tries, you'll begin to notice patterns and realize what strategies work best for you. But you have to put in the time. It's very possible.

I had the same problem.

I first hit CDP and make like 7's, 9's etc.

I personally think CDP is great for practice after you understand the basics and do easier problems. If you have the Kaplan book start their, the problems are easier, but make sure to really understand the instructions of the PAT.

After I did Kaplan a few times, I went back to CDP and consistently now hit around 10's 12's etc. and you do see improvement pretty quick.

You wont really know your 'weakest' section until you consistently practice, and even then the real DAT is different, so aim to do your best on every section...

you can do TFE! if you just started out this is completely normal my TFE i started out with a 3! a THREE. so you can get better at this pretty quickly. it seems hard at first but you'll get the hang of it. i really suggest spending time on it because you can see significant improvement.

dang practicing pat already. I look forward to your breakdown with 30 pat 😀

yeah, I got about the same scores as you when I first started out. It took me forever to score decently in the top front end view questions. Once I was able to figure out the top front end view questions, I start to do better on the keyholes section. Top front end view takes a lot of work, but once you got that down the keyhole section will be much easier, as well as other sections.

good luck

Jon

This may sound silly, but I read a score report thread of someone playing with Legos to get good at counting cubes.

I read another thread the other day about someone using Post-It notes and a hole puncher to practice the hole punch section. I'm going to try this one soon.

Omg. I love leggos. This will give me an excuse to buy some!

Duuuude, legos were my favorite growing up and how I developed my hand & eye coordination. I was going to mention it in the AADSAS app under manual dexterity activities, but figured schools just wouldn't understand. So instead I talked about some other dorky stuff that I really didn't do but would sound good lol.
