Hi guys,
I really need help with speed on PAT...

I have exactly a week before my exam and till date I have not completed a single PAT section in 1 hr...

any words/ methods of advice will help.... how do i work faster? I've been doing lots of practice and reviewing the answers.... its helping and i'm making some connections but I need to answer every question and I've yet to do that...

Also how do the CDP score correlate to actual PAT... I have done 3 CDP's and have scored 18 in each of them.. again not completing either in 1 hr.

Please any tips are appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance,

i also have my exam in a week, and i've done some PAT, and initially i couldn't finish any, but later i realized, there's no need to dwell on any particular question, i believe the rule on SDN is, if you spend more than 1 min on any question and not get it, mark it and then move on, salvage what you can, then come back.
I use this strategy now and i've found it very efficient.
Hope it helps

1. You are not practicing good test-taking skills. You can't spend extra time on any question and you can't spend time checking your answer on every question. You have to just pick the one that makes the most sense and leave a doubt in your mind that you might be wrong.

2. You need more practice. It took me maybe 5 tests before I started finishing my tests on time.

Thanks for the response guys...

I understand that I should do at least 2 tests from today till the D day..

The more you practice the more you will get a feel for how long you should spend on each section of the PAT. For me personally, it would be have been detrimental if I spend exactly 15 minutes on each section. What I can tell you is that I spent approx 17-18 mins on key holes and TFE (b/c these were the places where i had the most issues). However, then for paper folding i spent around 10-12 mins.
Angles: approx 7-8 mins
Cubes: 5-7 mins
Folding: 12 mins

This is what I was averaging while I was practicing. So as you practice more you will get a feel for what you need to spend more time on and what you need to spend less time on.

You want to be doing apretures and angles in like 10 mins and leave time for your harder sections for me it was the hole punching and pattern folding that req'd more effort and time did you try using a tally for cubes instead of counting individually for how many they ask you for make a tally number it 1 thru 5 and count the shaded areas on each single cube and tally it up that way u have the answers for the next few questions and u get them in a few seconds that shud save you some time just keep practicing and keep going the cdp is preety accurate for the test but they say wat ur gettin on cdp is usually 2 points lower than wat you will likley get on the real PAT so keep practicing it and look up my wicked sick pat tutorial to help you understand the top front end just try the best techniques and practice them so you work on your time!

it depends, what are you best at (which section)? i would say you can spend least amount of time on that and then ration the rest of the time to the types of q's ur bad at or take longer to do. for example, i was pretty solid at TFE and hole punching (well cube counting but everyone is good at it) so i set a goal to finish in under 10 mins for each and spend time on the the harder ones such as keyhole and pattern folding. the angle ranking is whatever because its not really skill, just a judgment call, at least for me. once you evaluate whats you are best/worst at set your goal for each section accordingly and do the CDP this way...i did this for my last 3 CDP tests and my scores went up.

A tip I read on here that helped me alot was that for angle ranking, don't take too long. Go with your best first judgment. Spending extra time looking at angles doesn't seem to help really.

take your time on keyholes, TFE, and pattern folding. you can make up time on the other 3. angles should take no longer than 5 mins. cube counting shouldnt take longer than 7-8 minutes and hole punching doesnt necessarilly take a lot of time as long as youve practiced it sufficiently
