how much practise did u guys put in to get 20+ on the pat. I Looked in each thread and couldnt find it.

I don't think there's really anything else besides practice. Well there are probly a few tips out there on what specific features to look out for, but it's based pretty much on your ability to create a 3d visual.

One of my hobbies is automotive mechanics, specifically engine building/rebuilding. I'm used to looking at 2d charts and diagrams and visualizing what certain parts of the engine look like and where they fit.

I guess this helps me focus on certain details that most people might miss.

All i can say is practice practice practice.....not just on PAT problems, but also try other things like puzzles (yea toys  ) to get your mind thinking in different ways.

i put in about a month and half. Started with a few hours a day of review and built up to about 8hrs/day. I did all the tests I could get my hands on, and it's very important to review the wrong and right answers to make sure you understand the concept and did not get it right by guessing.

I also tried to fit everyday object through keyhole (in my head). I would see a CD playes and try to picture it from all the different sides.

The top-front-end gave me the most trouble, but with practice i started to see trends and best way to work through this section is by taking out the wrong answers. That worked for me.

You should be getting 15/15 on cube counting and holepunching. Look for symmetry is holepunching and make a system for couting the cubes. I would make a chart and count all the cubes right away, making slash marks for each section (1 face, 2 faces, ect.) then I made sure my marks equaled to the number of cubes and then answer all the questions.

Good luck.

p.s. it worked for me (got a 23 on this section)

Get the Barrons review, the book is really only good for the PAT portion, but it helps you notice tricks and ways to acheive higher scores on the PAT

Practice, practice, and practice. Get as much PAT material that you can. Also, work on your timing, you want to be able to finish well ahead of time.

I would pretty much agree with what the others have said, basically put in plenty of time practicing and get Barron's (heads up: Barrons is FULL of errors on their practice tests, but the tutorials on each type of PAT question were excellent). I also used the Kaplan blue book...its PAT section is good practice though its a bit easier than the real PAT, especially on angle ranking. I put in about a week and half of studying for the DAT right after spring semester of last year...its not a hard test if you spend a little time studying for it. Good luck.

Repitition...thats the only way to do PAT. YOu can use strategies that Kaplan has, but they dont do any good without practice. I havent taken the real test yet, but I consistently make 21 on PAT practice test (TS, DAT achiever and Kaplan). My score never goes down, it slowly improves. Maybe one more correct answer every time I practice. I could not get the pattern folding down for the life of me, but then I kept on practicing and practicing, and now it is working out. Don't even worry about the time at first. Spend as much time as you need per problem to make sure that you are able to visualize the 3D image. Worry about time once you have that aspect down.

One more thing, don't look at the answers to the question until you have spent as much time as needed to where you are comfortable selecting an answer.

Do you practice the same or different tests? Once i go over a test and find out the answers i can't go over it again because i have the answers memorized which is bad i know.

wait a couple of weeks before taking the same exam again. i did this and found that i still missed problems on the practice exams. 😳

Kaplan was more than just a bit easier than the real thing...it was a complete joke. I was consistently getting 21 or 22 on the kaplan PAT's and kinda got lulled into a false sense of security and didnt focus too much on it...ended up with a 17 on the real thing. Kaplans fine to learn strategies to attack the problems, just find a better source for practice problems. Other than that, Kaplan is great for everything else...ended up with a 22/22/17
