I've been practicing a lot with CrackDATPAT, Barron's, and Topscore for the PAT section. I find the aperture section MOST DIFFICULT & I don't know how to improve my score on this section by pure practicing. CrackDATPAT is the only one that offer 3D explanation, while Topscore only provides the answer with no explanation. I always go back to the ones that I got wrong, but it's very hard to improve by pure practicing if I don't know WHY is it that I got wrong.

Any advices will be highly appreciated!

I think that section is the hardest for me. The only way I think that you can improve is by practicing a lot.

I always found it helpful to visualize the view from each side, ie; the Top/Front/End views. only, there are 2 of each. I didnt do this, but the kaplan online had spaces to draw out what each side looked like.

After doing the CDP, I realized that the angle/orientation in space in which the 3d object is floating is very important. For each shape, it is drawn from a certain perspective. And this perspective is what you need to reference from when considering parallel lines and such. If you do not pay attention to the line of perspective (and how it travels to a single dot in the horizon) then u will miss the little details and how each aspect of the shape compares.

But i think that the big picture is that Keyholes you need to think T/F/E, and in T/F/E, try to think about the 3d shape given in Keyholes. To me, keyholes prepared me for TFE.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your replies!

Anz: I agree that looking at the parallel lines are very important as 2 lines may appear straight but turn out not after looking at the 3D explanation in CrackDATPAT. I have a question for you though: how do you determine if two lines are parallel or not just by looking at the question? For some questions, I thought they are parallel but are in fact not after looking at the 3D pic. Are we allowed to use ruler to figure this out?

I guessed from the replies I get so far, the materials that I have in hands (CrackDATPAT, Barron's, Topscore) are the best materials to study for the PAT aperture - basically, practice, practice, & practice! BUT remember to look at the 3D images (in CrackDATPAT) to improve since Barron's & Topscore only give you the answer with no explanation!

Thanks again🙂
