Can't speak for the hospital, but Paterson is an economically depressed area. Most areas are unsafe at night. On the plus side, the community is very diverse.

I would be happy to answer more specific questions. The hospital residency programs are dominated by foreign medical grads. Anesth. & IM don't enter the match. As far as students, the hospital has a very strong relationship with St.George's Medical School. There is the occassional student from NJ Med or UNECOM or KCOM. The departments differ quite a bit in learning experience.

As far as location, there area is very bad, but you can slip in and out of the hospital without any trouble off the Garden State Parkway.
