hi, i am a new pgy-1 in pathology and am quickly realizing that it isn't what i thought it would be. i'm not one of those cases that misses the patient contact. rather, i just strongly dislike the grossing and autopsy services. i love the academic setting of the sign-out and really enjoy reading the material. i was between path and rads in medical school and am now thinking radiology was the way for me to go. it seems that it would entail all of the academic qualities of path, without the hands-on features that i dont like.

i will look into rads before i try to make such a big move, but i thought i'd ask for any feedback regarding these thoughts. thanks!

Go for it.

One thing to keep in mind is that real-life path involves only modest amounts of gross pathology. Most of the workload it seems is the reviewing of slides that technical staff and section assistants have prepared for you.

In addition to the comments I posted in the path forum, what makes you think you aren't going to dislike radiology also? Radiology has lots of hands on stuff too...Probably even more of it.

radiology residents...could you please tell me about the things you don't like about radiology residency. how much pt contact is there really? how much hands-on work is there? how much scut? what do you do beyond reading films? how are the hrs?
how is the reading? i would think it is extremely interesting with all the technology and physics employed.
thanks!
