SO I just finished a rotation with a very well known/respected pathologist, and the whole thing went so smoothly I had to pinch myself. I asked today if he would be willing to write me a LOR, and he said he would be happy to do so.

But here's the catch-

He wants me to write a draft. I have no clue what to say or what residency directors want to hear.

Could anyone help me out here? I'm pretty sure writing that I'm the coolest guy he's ever met isn't going to help me much.

Since path is a pretty unique field, my experience has been that PD's want to know WHY you want to go into pathology.

Perhaps examining your motivations for pursuing a career in path would help in brainstorming ideas for your draft. Other than that, reference your mad skillz on the grossing bench and under the microscope.

Good luck!

Make sure you include things like "enthusiastic," "genuine interest in pathology," "hard worker," "gets along with everyone," "good sense of humor," etc.
