i was wondering if anyone knows anything about malpractice in path. i haven't heard a lot about it. is insurance astronomical like in ob/gyn or is it relatively reasonable?? also, do pathologists tend to get sued as much as the other specialties??

Malpractice premiums for pathologists are surprisingly low, considering that they make the final diagnosis! Maybe most patients don't understand their role?? In any case, annual premiums (these are all from 1999) were $5540 for pathologists, compared to $29,430 for OB/Gyns, $25,075 for general surgeons and $8,000 for internists and FPs. The radiologists' premiums averaged $13,000 - guess they're not as "hidden" :)
