I am MD-PhD student applying soon, went to top 20 program, got a few good pubs
I loved my leukemia/lymphoma rotation, but I hated with passion general internal medicine rotation. It felt like hospitalists were sad, pedantic, petty, and patients got worse because of our "care".
Pathology was fine, I liked the people, not sure I am the biggest histo fan though
Loved every other "core" rotation, but I want to do cancer science (perhaps mix of mechanistic + translational) like 80-90% of the time eventually if I can and every other specialty feels like uphill battle to stay in science in any meaningful capacity.
With that is there any way to choose between path and IM/Hem/onc PSTP?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm not MD-PhD but came across this anyway and of the range of friends I have in IM many of them see general IM somewhere between tolerable and ugh. They live for their sub speciality and do 0 general IM after residency. Basically if you like heme-onc I'd just put my head down and do the 3 year residency. Granted heme onc could be a tough fellowship to match but as an MDPhD I imagine you'd be fine.
