A score of 74 is the 50th percentile. This is the score the NBME gives you, but it does not mean that you got 74/125 questions correct. It's just a number that doesn't correlate to anything. I tried to post a pdf that gives you your percentile from your score, but I don't know if it will work.

There's a 2-digit and 3-digit score. I don't think that 74 is 50th percentile. What's your source?

I only got a 2 digit score. You saw that the OP was asking about the path shelf, not step 1, right? Anyway, my source is from a document given to us by my school. It's from the NBME and is based on the scores of students taking the exam in 2002-2003 and 2003-2004. I think I got the attachment to work this time.

No, the shelf this year gave a 3-digit score (most ranged between 200 and 800). There was also a 2-digit conversion factor.
