Pathstudent: Are you going to post the top 25 Path programs List?
I see that in radiology there is a posting of the program rankings.
See: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=660618 and I have also pasted below:
"Here is the highly acclaimed top 25 radiology program list by academic radiologists that was posted on Auntminnie.com.

Here is the list I compiled based on conversations at RSNA and ARRS with over 20 university radiologists. Radiology residency rankings do not correlate with medical school reputation. You may give this list to any senior radiology attending and they will agree with this assessment with possible minor adjustments.

1. MGH
1. UCSF
1. PENN
1. MIR
5. Johns Hopkins
6. Duke
6. Michigan
6. BWH
9. Stanford
10. NYU
11. Mayo Clinic-Rochester
11. Wake Forest
13. UCLA
13. Univ. Washington
13. Univ. Virginia
13. Univ. Pittsburgh
13. BID
18. UCSD
18. Thomas Jefferson
20. Indiana
20. North Carolina
20. UTSW
23. Wisconsin
23. UAB
23. Cleveland Clinic

Honorable Mention: Northwestern, Cornell, Iowa, Florida-Gainesville, Vanderbilt, Cornell, Emory, South Carolina, Oregon Health, Maryland, Baylor-Houston, Utah, Arkansas, Baylor-Dallas, UT-Houston, William Beaumont, Henry Ford, Medical College of Wisconsin, Albert Einstein, Santa Clara Valley, New Mexico, Virginia Mason, Scott and White, Brown"
My comment: It would be interesting to see a similar top 25 for pathology.

Looks like they need a 4-team playoff for the national championship. I favor MGH only if they have to compete outside in the snow.

And BTW- that correlates very well with med school rankings- Harvard/UCSF/PENN/WashU are all at the very top.

The radiology program rankings are bogus, just like any pathology ranking would be equally bogus. Anyone can list programs and say it's valid, it doesn't mean it is. What the heck is MIR anyway? I thought MIR was a space station.

Nobody ever actually makes such ranking lists with rigorous criteria. They go with programs they have "heard" are good, followed by programs that must be good since they have such a big name, then they throw in a few that they have personal experience with and think deserve to be thought higher of. They make sure they put programs from each area of the country on there, but probably weight it more towards whatever area of the country they like. And then they get through the list and they think of other programs that are just as good as any of the others but they aren't as famous (or they are as famous but the program probably sucks), or they think of some bigwig they heard talk once and remember where he/she works, so they call those "honorable mention."

It is all such total bull**** that it isn't even worth debating. Not to mention the fact that it doesn't even matter. Nobody knows enough about all the programs to make an accurate ranking. And even if they did, they wouldn't be making rankings anyway. People will only have solid knowledge of a handful of programs, and certainly not enough knowledge to make intelligent, actionable rankings.

Haha... well I'm sure you are joking, but MIR is Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology- It is WashU.

I did not know what MIR was either. I don't really trust most places with "institute" in the title (except maybe for MIT). A lot of pod labs actually put the word "institute" in their name to sound more prestigious.

I agree that rankings are bogus. I would not trust anyone's rankings. If you want to put a list together of "25 good programs" that would be more realistic, although even then it's still arbitrary and not incredibly useful.

I had interpreted MIR as Mayo in Rochester.
