Pathology question

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I also have a pathology question, how does hepatitis virus destroy the liver,is it some toxins by the virus or virus itself destroying the architecture?

All hepatitis viruses do not cause any damage to the liver themself. its the body's own cell mediated immune response against the virus that destroys the hepatocytes. T cell mediated attack on the virus infected liver cells results in damage to these cells and thus releasing the liver enzymes, which are then used as markers of liver disease. in immunocompromised patients, hepatitis viruses cause little damage to liver as the body cannot elicit an immune response.
