So, has anyone taken the path shelf yet? We had it this week, and I didn't think it was too terrible. There was obviously some tough stuff on there, but most of the questions were very answerable. I was sort of surprised by the number of questions in which you had to rely on an image to get the answer correct. I had at least 10 questions that were almost word-for-word as Goljan described! After the test was over I went through my FA 2009 and looked up details about the questions I could remember. A few of the questions couldn't be answered with FA, but the vast majority were in there. Does anyone else care to share their Path shelf experience?

So I just took the Pathology shelf exam last Friday (No scores yet...guess it will be a while). It was what I had expected based on reading posts about others' shelf experiences and hearing the "buzz" from the class above me. There was a significant amount of material tested that was not covered in my pathology course but covered only in other courses like immuno, micro, and genetics.

I agree that Dr. Goljan's audio was helpful for review and most if not all the info was in the First Aid 2010.

We had a Block exam the day before the shelf (Path, Pharm) so I had to study for the shelf along with the last block of Path material and all the new Pharm material, take that block, get up the next day and take the Path shelf.

I attempted to read through BRS Pathology from cover to cover but I only got 11 chapters in. However, it was a very good book and I'll def. use it for the board exam.

I guess we are the only people who have taken it so far. Our Path class does end before most schools, so maybe that's why no one else has commented.

We have an integrated curriculum and will take our path shelf at the end of the year, along with pharm, micro, and physical diagnosis. Kind of sucks having them all jam-packed at the end of there, but then again, it's all the closer to step 1, so maybe more stuff will stick...

I have the exam on Monday - Should I BRS it, or FA, or what? I feel I could get thru the BRS and do all the questions no problem...

Use BRS. Get through as much as you can.

Absolutely. You need to know all all about the disease process including treatment. Chances are they won't be picky & expect you to know drug mechanisms like Pharm, but you still should know the basics.
