In Dr. Sattar's salivary gland lecture (page 100 of the Pathoma book), he mentions that pleomorphic adenomas are painless because they are benign and don't invade the facial nerve, which goes through the parotid gland. Does the facial nerve (CN VII) transmit pain sensation? He seems to imply that a malignant tumor could cause pain by invading the facial nerve, but I thought that only the trigeminal nerve (CN V) transmitted facial sensation of touch, pain, etc. Help? 😕

The auriculotemporal branch of the trigeminal nerve also innervates the parotid gland. So the pain from parotitis is sensed via this nerve.
