TV? Should be great if realism isn't super important.

If you mean literature, there's a great book called The Making of Surgeon that I liked. If fiction, House of God. If real life, talk to a healthcare professional - they have great stories.

Talk to any paramedic, and you will get lots of great stories. An ER doc is also another good source.

I have a bunch of stories from my own ER/EMS experience. It is a crazy mix of people you get, ranging from neglectful parents, sick kids, dying old folks, to the straight-up psycho.

Sometimes, after having to deal with the really crazy ones, I wonder why I even chose the career of medicine. It is also strange how desensitized I have already become, especially to dead people.

Other than that, several blogs online have great stories. Try looking up "fiznat" aka baby medic and you'll get a bunch.

I was recently called to a home for a 15 y/o female with an abnormal pregnancy (I'm a paramedic by the way). We arrived thinking that she might be giving birth. We asked her what was wrong and she said "It kicked me" while pointing to her belly. I tried to explain to her that the baby kicking was normal and a good sign. She put her hands on her hips and said, "No you don't understand, IT kicked ME!" ... I again tried to explain to her that this was normal and she would be feeling for the baby to kick several times a day to make sure everything was okay with the baby. She snapped her little finger at me and said "IT kicked ME!" and I said "Yes I understand that the baby kicked you." She said "Well can't yall ground it or something? This isn't fair." I told her that I wasn't allowed to ground unborn children in the state of Pennsylvania. She ended up not needing EMS and we were clear of the scene.

Just another day on the trucks,
