so my test is on tuesday, and i still haven't figured out how to do some of the pattern folding problems...in particular the cubes. Is there a technique that you're supposed to use when folding the cube out. I can visualize pretty much any thing in 3d, but when it comes to those cube questions, i just select (c) and move on to the next question. Help Plz!!

I like your current method 🙂, but in general you should try to create a mental image of the paper folded and then associate colored/marked sides if there are any in relation to each other (i.e. if there are sides with lines that are adjacent to each other in the paper remember that in the folded figure they should be as well). Other then that I don't know what to say...

Here is what helped me in the beginning.

Use 6 sheets of Post-it to make it as drawn in the problem to see what happens when it's folded. Just remember the paper is folded "into" the screen not "outward". After couple of exercises, try it just mentally.

I just tried doing those problems on kaplan and I couldn't figure any of them out...until I used the "superimposing" method. To narrow down the choices--take whichever answer looks good and flatten it out and see if you can superimpose it on the original. I never did this before and when I started doing it I answered all of the kaplan ones correctly and some of the achiever (MUCH harder).

Does anyone have any tips for TFE on achiever? They are impossible to me 😱

This is actually a great tip. Had I known this earlier I would've tried it, but I am already done with the DAT...

For TFE, have you tried counting line/event way?

hmm..do you mean take apart the figure (answer choice) in your head and paste it on the question?? SOunds aberrant. I'll try it anyway! thanks.

For tfe, the best method is to do the questions over and over and over again until you see the 3d figure in your head using only 2 sides. I know this wasn't the way you wanted to hear, but I think it's the best way.

Hope that helped. I'm out.

I've been doing the superimposing method and it works. You have to remember that some of the side 'flaps' will be present with the superimposed part after folding..does that make sense?

With TFE I usually count the lines, and if the figure is not too terribly complex I can understand the solid/hidden lines; however, on achiever they were impossible!

How do you count line/event? For a TFE i have no way of do them
