I've been thinking of applying to some post-bac's. My qualifications meet some of the minimum requirements but they don't compare well to the average applicants accepted.

Also, I've been out of science for 5 years since I graduated. Most applicants (as I've read here on SDN) have something going on that make them look good as an applicant such as they've been working as a research tech/assistant/etc., ems, clinic, etc.

I've been emailing the post-bac programs trying to figure out how I'd fair with them. They give too general of a response.

Nothing like deciding to lose before you ever get to the big game...

Yeah, like Mr Adventure said - you are forfeiting before the competition begins. Why be so down on your capability? And if you think you are being realistic, you are sadly mistaken. You are being pessimistic!! Do you really want to become a doctor? If so, then act like it and apply to programs you feel could be of great benefit to you. Straighten up and fly right soldier! 😀 😀

Hi there,
There is a pervasive disease among pre-meds that causes them to obscess about comparing themselves to every other pre-med. Fight this "everyone is more qualified than me" disease process and figure out what makes you an outstanding applicant. If you can't articulate why you would be a good post bacc candidate then you might lose the battle before you even start.

njbmd 🙂
