If one were to take undergrad courses (lets say 9 credits) as a post-bac on their own. Can they recieve Finicial Aid? Can you recieve private aid? or just federal loans and if so does it matter how much you borrowed as an undergrad?

Thanks!

i don't think you can get financial aid - financial aid is typically given for degree programs. i don't know about private aid though. i think that might be more likely than the first option though...anybody else know? my advice would be to call the financial aid office of the school you would be interested in and explain how you would be taking classes and what your options would be. especially as the school year winds down, now might be a good time to ask...

You should definitley contact the financial aid office of the school you are attending for the best information.

With that said, my experience has been you can apply for private aid for student loans almost 100% of the time. All loans are certified by the school you attend to make sure that you are not taking out loans for reasons other than tuition, living expenses, books, etc.

Federal aid is usually only given to degree or certificate seeking students. If you can claim that you are a 5th year undergrad than you will be eligible for $10,500.00 per year in federal loans.

Again, take two minutes and call your financial aid office.

Thank you for the information. I have contacted the FA office, but they have been less then helpful and don't really have an answer for me so I wanted to see if I anyone could speak directly from their personal experience.

I am in this situation right now. I will be able to get ~$10000 over the year beginning this summer (including fall and spring). After that, there is no more federal aid. As I have a Psycology degree and CANNOT find decent work with decent pay, I will likely have to take out additiopnal loans from a private source (such as CITI or BOA). The interest rates don't seem too bad, but I already have 2 loan payments and adding a third could make things substantially more difficult during residency (eg-not having enough money to cover expenses and make payments... what good will a lousy 40k be?!?!)

Uniformed services are an option for medical school, but I don't think military life is for me (though the financial situation would be so much better, I may actually consider it).

Good luck.
