Does anyone happen to know if Palm Beach Atlantic or Nova still accept students after two years of pre-pharmacy courses? Because I get the vibe Nova is probably preffering bachelors degrees while PBA is pretty accepting of just two years of study. And for those that are currently attending Nova or PBA do you see alot of students there without a bachelors degree? I'm a bit anxious to get into pharmacy school soon but if having a bachelors degree gives me a better chance then I'm willing to wait.

one of my good friends of 12 years got into Nova (and UF) w/o a Bachelors. She attended UF as an undergrad...not quite sure if she had any pharmacy experience, but she definitely had a 4.0 and scored in the 99th percentile on the PCATs. I'm happy for her b/c Nova was her first choice. 👍

I would say that there more students w/o bachelors than with. However, it is a huge positive to the adcom to have a degree.

Goodluck..

Someone suggested Palm Beach Atlantic to me yesterday so I looked at their website and it said that they're not fully accredited yet. What does that actually mean? Do you have to take extra exams after you graduate to get licensed if you've gone to a school that isn't fully accredited?

PBA is still in the process of getting their accredidation..It is to my understandng that they are still waiting for their first class to graduate to complete their process.

Does it matter what your degree is in? Or is it just a sign someone has completed a course of work?

It usually doesnt matter what your degree is in. The adcom at Nova actually welcomes diversity amongst its student body. However, most of us are science majors simply b/c most of our prereqs fall into that category.

Is it easier to get in to schools that aren't accredited? Otherwise, why would people go to them?

People don't necessarily goto schools that aren't acredited as its not beneficial to someone who plans on practicing in the United States (e.g. you won't be able to sit for the boards). Palm Beach Atlantic has candidate status and should be fully accredited by the end of this year (hopefully the end of this summer). So far PBAU has done everything right, there is no reason for them not to get accredited. They just graduated their first class this April, so at the next ACPE meeting they'll probably become fully accredited.

Palm Beach Atlantic sure does and of course they offer a special track if you do the undergraduate work at PBAU. For current information on that program please refer to: http://cosmas.pba.edu/pharmacy/Admissions/GuaranteedAdmissionsPolicy.htm
