According to Ferris State University's Pharmacy Admissions Page, "December 13, 2006: The PCAT will be changing its format after January 2007. All 2008 applicants must take this new format to be eligible to apply. The first one will be offered in June of 2007, and the last one in January 2008."

This makes me really hope that I get in for 2007.....I really don't want to have to take the test again (97 composite on Oct. 2006).

Does anyone else know of other schools that will require the new PCAT format?

I think they are reducing the number of questions by 5 (might be adding 5, but pretty sure it's a reduction). Also, I think I saw somewhere that they are adding more genetics and calculus to the exam.

::Quantitative Ability:: 58 items (50 min)

::Chemistry:: 58 items (35 min)

Organic Chemistry 35%

::Writing:: 1 topic (30 min)
Conventions of Language 100%

According to AACP news the PCAT will experience several changes as of June 2007. They include: 1. The verbal , biology, quantitative ability, and chemistry subtests will be reduced in length from 58 to 48 questions. 2. Of the 48 items, 40 will be core questions and 8 will be experimental questions to possibly be used as core questions on future exams. 3. A second writing subtest will be added although examinees will only receive a score for one of the essays. 4. The quantitative ability section will no longer include geometry items. The math section will include basic items such as fractions, percentages, decimals, unit conversions, log base 10, and increase the # of probablitiy and statistics items. 5. The biology section subtest will have more genetics items. 6. Also, the writing section will now state a problem involving a health, science, social, cultural, or political issue. Examinees will be asked to present a solution to the particular problem. The writing section will receive 2 scores : 1 for language conventions and 1 for problem solving. 7. An additional test date has also been added in August to accomodate the increasing number of examinees. So there it is guys!! It sounds to me, on the surface, that this format may be easier😀 Any input?

I like all the changes except the genetics one.
I have no idea what else will they test us on, other than sexlinked dieases, punett sq, co-dominance, replication+transcription+translation. shrugs.

YAY FOR THE CHANGES.
BOO FOR ME HAVING TO TAKE IT BEFORE THE CHANGES.

=))))))

How come the pcat website doesn't say anything about this. I am taking the pcat this october, so my 2007 kaplan book won't be up to date anymore?

Yes...If you type "AACP" into the yahoo search engine it will take you to their homepage. Click on Admissions, then PCAT, then scroll to the bottom of the screen. You will see a link that says "PCAT announces new changes for 2007-08". All the info I mentioned is there.🙂 Oh, and by the way, yes calculus is still on the exam.
