Hi,

This is my third year at a cummunity college. I am behind a year due to ESL classes that the college required me to take. I wonder if pharmacy school will look at this and will it effect me as a applicant? If I were to take under 15 semester credit hours, will this make me less competitive than other applicants, who took more than 15 semester hours?

I also was wondering if anybody has taken the Kaplan course, which causes 1400 dollars in my state, and does it helps out a lot on the Pcat? I was thinking about taking the course next summer.

Thank you,
Nguyen nguyen

I took the Kaplan PCAT course. I wouldn't recommend the course just because I didn't really learn much of anything there, however the material they give you is really useful.

They give you a very large kaplan science book, a smaller math&reading book, and a lecture book to cover all general knowledge of all 5 sections of the PCAT.
Also, online they provide you with 2 full size tests, 1 short diagnostic test, and workshops and quizzes/tests to supplement each subject. And, if you think this seems like just too much stuff to study they give you a syllabus with what to study before every Monday and Wednesday (lecture dates).

Is it worth $1,400? In my opinion, no. However, if you do have the money then by all means go for it. The material they give you is really helpful and PLUS they have something called "higher score guaranteed". That means, if you have taken the PCAT before (and if you haven't then it uses the diagnostic PCAT score they give you the first day of class) and if your PCAT score following within 3 months of taking the class is not higher, then they will either:
A) Let you retake the class for free
B) Allow you access to all the online study material
C) Full $1,400 refund

I think that guarantee is what made my decision to take the class. I got a 69 on the PCAT a week before starting the class. and ONLY studied the kaplan required/recommended material and attended the lectures and I took the PCAT a few days after the class ended. I am still waiting for my results. I'll get back to you with them if you wish. They should be back around October 1st.

Good luck!

Thanks rozaik for taking your time to reply my thread. Please keep me an update with your score once you receive it. About the course, I want to take it so I have a good review of everything. Do you feel more comfordence after you have taken the course than before? Do you think you will receive a better score than last Pcat? It is as good as Dr.Collin self-study? I am taking Orgo I, Biol I, and two other classes and planning to take the Pcat course next summer (from june to aug) and than take the Pcat at the end of Aug..
